Counterweight System

counterweight system, counterweight rigging

What is a Counterweight System?

A counterweight system is a manually-operated flying system where the load on a batten is balanced by iron or steel weights in a carriage (arbor). The operator only needs to overcome friction to move the system — making it possible to lift hundreds of kilograms with minimal effort.

How It Works

The arbor travels vertically along guide rails, carrying adjustable weight pieces. The weight is adjusted to match the load on the batten. When balanced, the operator can move the batten with one hand by releasing the rope lock and pulling the purchase line.
