Curtain Track

curtain track, stage curtain track, motorized curtain track

What is a Curtain Track?

A curtain track is a mechanically guided rail system used to support and move stage curtains and drapes. It consists of an aluminum or steel track with carriers (gliders) that carry the curtain fabric. Curtain tracks can be straight, curved, or configurable, and may be hand-operated or motorized.

How It Works

The track provides a guided path for carriers that are attached to the curtain heading. Carriers roll on wheels or slide on low-friction inserts within the track channel. For motorized systems, a drive unit (motor + belt or cable drive) moves the carriers along the track.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: A curtain track, a traveler — are they the same thing?

A: Not exactly, though the terms get swapped in conversation all the time. A curtain track is the engineered aluminum or steel rail that the carriers ride on — it is the hardware. A "traveler" is a complete stage drape system that happens to use a track: it means a bi-parting curtain pair with the fabric, carriers, master carriers, and often a motor or rope drive, all designed to split open from center. So every traveler includes a curtain track, but a curtain track can also be used for a one-way draw, a side tab, or even a decorative valance. When you order from BRD, we spec the track profile, carrier type, and drive method as separate line items from the fabric itself, so there is no confusion.
