Cyclorama
cyclorama, cyc curtain, stage backdrop
What is a Cyclorama?
A cyclorama (commonly called a "cyc") is a large, seamless curtain or curved surface at the rear of the stage used as a background for lighting effects. When properly lit, a cyclorama can simulate sky, infinite depth, or any color environment. It is one of the most versatile elements in stage design.
How It Works
A cyclorama is typically made from lightweight, flame-retardant fabric (muslin or nylon) hung from a batten in a wide, slightly curved configuration. Lit from the front, it shows color; lit from behind (back-lit), it creates a glowing sky effect. The curved shape eliminates corner shadows and creates a seamless appearance.
