Grid / Gridiron
stage grid, gridiron, fly loft grid
What is a Grid / Gridiron?
A grid (or gridiron) is the structural framework of steel beams located above the stage that supports all rigging loads — including head blocks, loft blocks, lighting positions, and scenery. It is the "ceiling" of the fly tower and the foundation of the entire flying system.
How It Works
The grid consists of primary beams (spanning the stage width) and secondary beams (creating a grid pattern). Beams are positioned at regular intervals to provide attachment points for rigging hardware. The grid must be designed to carry the total combined load of all flying equipment, lighting, and scenery that will be suspended from it.
