Lifting Machine

stage lifting machine, powered lifting equipment

What is a Lifting Machine?

A lifting machine is a broad term encompassing any powered mechanical device used to raise, lower, or move loads vertically. In stage machinery (per EN 17206), lifting machines include all powered hoists, winches, elevators, and lifts used in performance venues. The term is the formal classification used in safety standards.

How It Works

Lifting machines convert electrical energy into mechanical motion through motors, gearboxes, and transmission elements (ropes, chains, screws, or hydraulic cylinders). They must incorporate braking systems (service brake + safety brake), overload protection, limit switches (upper and lower), and emergency stop capability.
