What is a Orchestra Pit Lift?
An orchestra pit lift is a specialized stage lift that converts between an orchestra pit (below stage level), a stage extension (flush with stage), or an auditorium extension (flush with audience floor). It is a critical piece of equipment in multi-purpose performing arts venues.
How It Works
A large platform (typically spanning the full width of the proscenium) moves vertically between multiple positions: Pit position (-2.5m to -4.0m below stage), Stage level (flush with main stage), and Audience level (extends seating capacity). The lift uses hydraulic cylinders, screw jacks, or wire rope hoists, often with multiple drive points for even lifting across the wide platform.
