Spooling Drum

spooling drum, wire rope drum, hoist drum

What is a Spooling Drum?

A spooling drum is a precisely grooved cylindrical component on a hoist that winds and stores wire rope. The drum's groove pattern ensures even rope layering, preventing cross-winding, crushing, and premature rope wear.

How It Works

The drum surface has machined helical grooves that guide the wire rope into neat, parallel layers. As the drum rotates, the rope follows the grooves, wrapping evenly from one end to the other. LeBus grooving is a common pattern that provides accurate rope alignment even under high loads.
