Truss Batten

I-beam batten made of two parallel steel tubes joined by bolted spacer posts, forming a stiff I-section that resists bending and twist over long spans. Fixtures and curtains mount on the tubes; suspension points connect through turnbuckle pipe clamps. Length and spacing configurable per venue.

Key Features

  • I-beam cross-section — far stiffer than a single pipe of the same weight
  • Twin tubes with bolted spacer posts keep the section stable and true
  • Fixtures and curtains clamp directly onto either tube
  • Modular — batten length and suspension point spacing to suit the venue
  • Pairs with BRD turnbuckle pipe clamps and hoists for a complete rig

The BRD Truss Batten — also known as a double batten, ladder truss batten or I-section pipe batten — is a long-span suspension batten built from two parallel steel tubes connected by spacer posts. Viewed end-on, the section is a capital "I": that shape is exactly the point, because it gives the batten the bending and torsional stiffness that a single pipe cannot achieve at the same weight.

Why an I-Section?

A single pipe batten sags and twists as spans grow, and fixture rows start to look like a wave. The I-section changes the mechanics: the two tubes act as flanges, the spacer posts as webs, so loads spread along the whole batten instead of localizing at mid-span. The result is a straight, stable line for lighting, curtains and scenery — even over wide stages.

Built for the Field

Every connection is a bolted spacer plate or rod: no welding on site, no special tools. Sections can be joined to reach the required length, spacer spacing can follow the fixture plan, and each suspension point attaches through a BRD turnbuckle pipe clamp — which is also where final leveling happens, turnbuckle by turnbuckle.

One Batten, Many Uses

Lighting battens (electrics) with fixtures and cable management; curtain battens carrying track or ties; scenery battens for border pieces and drops. The twin-tube format accepts standard pipe clamps, C-clamps and batten clamps on either tube, so anything that mounts on a pipe batten mounts here.

BRD Technology manufactures stage machinery and rigging in China with 500+ installations across 14 countries and regions, and supplies I-beam battens individually or as part of complete rigging systems with hoists, clamps and wire rope.

Buyers asking for a batten, pipe batten, double batten or ladder truss batten end up at the same product: this truss batten. It is usually flown on a batten hoist such as the SP Series and hung with our batten clamps and turnbuckles, giving a complete rigging package from one supplier.
